What should I expect at my first session?
The first appointment is a collaborative discussion between you and I or between families or couples. Please have your initial paperwork completed before the initial evaluation or you can complete it during your first evaluation. We will discuss your symptoms, obstacles in life, your strengths, and what you hope to gain from our time together.
We will cover a variety of topics and issues from your past and present. The most important part of the initial session is to develop trust and rapport as well as to provide you the opportunity to see if we “click” or are a good fit. Many people ask, “What happens next?” During the initial evaluation we will collaboratively decide how the rest of counseling will go.
Is counseling right for me?
Every client’s journey is unique to them. I am a strong believer that everyone can benefit from having a non-judgment, unbiased person to talk to in a safe environment. We live in a very stressful time and learning ways to cope with life can also be very helpful.

What is therapy like?
Therapy is a collaborative relationship where you can feel safe to explore the various areas of your life and to receive help for whatever it is you need. The counseling process is unique to every person and people benefit from therapy in various ways.
I am strong, why do i need counseling?
Sometimes people can overcome problems in their life without seeking professional advice. However, this depends on your healthy coping skills and the amount of healthy support in your life. Talking to family and friends can help but counselors are trained professionals that are skilled in helping people solve problems. Counselors can help you learn how to change the way you think, feel, & behave, help you solve problems, and help you positively change your life.
Is therapy confidential?
Law protects our communication and in general, everything is confidential. I will not disclose any information with prior written consent from the client or legal guardian.
However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. Exceptions are:
Suspected child, dependent adult, and elderly abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another individual. The therapist is required to notify the police.
If the client plans to harm herself or himself. The therapist will make every effort to help you resolve your crisis and ensure safety. However, if the client does not or will not cooperate, the therapist will need to take further steps to notify the appropriate parties.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and Comp Psych. If you have a different insurance provider I will provide you with the appropriate documentation at each appointment so you can file for out of network benefits.
